HR guidance for both sides of the border
Employment rules differ between provinces, between states and between the two countries. With HR designations in Canada and the U.S., we help you keep practices consistent where you can and adapt them where local rules require.
Ending employment
Canada: Reasonable notice or pay in lieu, on top of statutory minimums
United States: At-will employment in most states, with contract and discrimination exceptions
Employment standards
Canada: Set by each province, plus federal rules for some industries
United States: Federal law, such as the FLSA, plus state and local rules
Pay transparency
Canada: Growing requirements in several provinces
United States: Requirements in a growing number of states and cities
Leaves and benefits
Canada: Provincial leaves alongside federal EI benefits
United States: FMLA plus state paid leave programs, which vary widely
This is a general overview, not legal advice. Rules vary by jurisdiction and change often. For legal questions, we recommend speaking with an employment lawyer.
How We Work
Every engagement follows the same four steps, whether it's a single policy, an AI pilot or ongoing HR support.
- 01
Discovery call
We learn about your business, your team and what you need. We'll tell you honestly whether we're a good fit.
- 02
Assessment
We review your current practices across the lifecycle, including where AI is already in use, talk with the right people and identify gaps and risks.
- 03
Plan
You receive a clear scope, timeline and recommendations, so you know what will happen and when.
- 04
Deliver and hand off
We do the work, explain our reasoning and leave your team with tools they can keep using.
HR advisers who understand the business
Our team holds the CHRL and CPHR designations in Canada and the SHRM-SCP in the United States. We've supported small and mid-sized businesses in technology, restaurants, financial services and wealth management, including companies with employees in several provinces and states.
We start from a simple belief: most people want to do good work. Our role is to help you create the conditions for it, with clear expectations, consistent decisions and managers who support their teams. As AI changes how work gets done, that means helping people learn new tools while keeping decisions about people human.
Our aim is a workplace that is externally compliant and internally equitable.
Common questions
Do we need an HR department to work with you?
No. Many of our clients have no HR staff. Others have an HR generalist who wants a senior adviser. We work with whatever you have in place.
Where should we start with AI?
Usually with routine, template-driven work where a person reviews everything before it goes out, such as onboarding emails, offer letters or policy questions. We'll help you pick two or three safe places to start.
Can we hire you for a single project?
Yes. You can bring us in for one project, such as an AI use policy, a handbook, a hiring process or an investigation, or for ongoing HR support.
Where do you work?
We work with businesses in Canada and the United States, including companies with employees in more than one province or state.
Do you deliver training in person?
Yes. We run training, coaching and team-building sessions on-site at your workplace.
Is your advice legal advice?
No. We give HR advice that takes employment rules into account, but we aren't lawyers. When a situation needs a legal opinion, we'll recommend involving an employment lawyer.
Do we have to use AI to work with you?
No. AI is one option among many. If it doesn't suit your business, your data or your team yet, we'll say so and focus on the HR work itself.
Do you sell or set up AI software?
We don't sell software. We help you decide where AI makes sense, choose tools that fit, and put the policies and review steps in place.
How do we get started?
Email us a short note about what you need. We'll set up a discovery call to learn more and suggest a sensible next step.
